With the NHL starting up in just over a week, people will be reactivating their fantasy leagues and setting dates for their draft. If you are a hockey fan, you know who’s going to be good but when you get to the late rounds, the depth players make a big impact. Here are five sleeper picks you should consider for your fantasy team.
Vladimir Tarasenko

Coming off a 10-game season due to injury, Tarasenko is looking to get back on track to help his team contend for a Stanley Cup. In previous years, you would look at Tarasenko as a player that would really help your fantasy team. A player who would put up 60-70 points in his previous 5 seasons with the St. Louis Blues. He is very close to returning, expect him in the line up early February.
Dominik Kubalik

A 6ft 2 forward that has an eye for the back of the net. Scoring 30 goals in his first NHL season, Kubalik has been a strong player for the Chicago Blackhawks. With Toews and Dach out of the lineup, expect Kubalik to play a much bigger role. I wouldn’t draft him too early in your fantasy line up but definitely look for his name mid-way through the draft.
Andre Burakovsky

Playing most of his career with the Washington Captials, Burakovsky was traded to the highly talented Colorado Avalanche in 2019. This was a perfect pick up for Colorado as Burakovsky knows what it takes to hoist Lord Stanley as he won it with the Capitals in 2018. Spending most of his time jumping between the second and third line, he put up 20 goals and 25 assists with his first season with the Avalanche. With Colorado being the favourites to win the Stanley Cup, expect Burakovsky to play a huge role in being a secondary scorer.
Victor Arvidsson

Being a strong team the past 4-5 years, Nashville had an early exit with a loss to the Arizona Coyotes in the play-in series. Arvidsson missed 4-6 weeks last year with a lower body injury, which is a huge loss for the Predators organization. In the past 3 seasons, Arvidsson has three 30+ goal seasons. He definitely flies under the radar as he doesn’t get enough credit for what he does on the ice. Being 100% healthy, expect him to put up 25-30 goals this season.
Zach Hyman

An absolute workhorse for the Toronto Maple Leafs. I don’t think there is a player on that roster that works harder than Zach Hyman on a nightly basis. For a player whose main role isn’t to score goals, he finds the right areas at the right time. Coming off back-to-back 20+ goal seasons, expect him to play on the first or second line with some highly skilled players.
Happy drafting everyone!
