BREAKING NEWS: Auston Matthews and the Maple Leafs Agree on an Extension

Updated: Oct 14, 2023

Arguable one of the best players to put on the Maple Leaf sweater, Auston Matthews extends his time with the Maple Leafs by signing a 4 year deal worth $53 million. This comes out to be $13.25 million a season, which makes him the highest paid player in the NHL.

This is great news for Leafs fans across the nation. Most fans would have been happier if the term was longer but now they can exhale since it was done a year before he would have became an RFA.

In his 7 years in the NHL, Matthews has four 40 goal seasons, a Hart Trophy, and a 60 goal season. Big question is, can the Maple Leafs get over this hump and hoist Lord Stanley? Having Matthews locked in for 4 more years, definitely gives them an opportunity to wipe away the 50+ year drought and bring madness to the city of Toronto!
