The Carolina Hurricanes seized a commanding 3-1 series lead over the Washington Capitals with a 5-2 victory in Game 4 of their Eastern Conference Second Round matchup on Monday night at Lenovo Center in Raleigh. NHL


Carolina established early control, with Shayne Gostisbehere and Seth Jarvis scoring in the first two periods. Taylor Hall and Sean Walker each contributed a goal and an assist, with Walker's third-period goal proving pivotal. Andrei Svechnikov sealed the win with an empty-netter. CBSSports.com


Goaltender Frederik Andersen made 19 saves, anchoring a strong defensive effort that included successful penalty kills.  The Capitals' Alex Ovechkin and Jakob Chychrun scored in the third period, but their rally fell short. Reuters


The Hurricanes can clinch the series in Game 5, scheduled for Thursday in Washington
