PNC Championship: Day One Results

The PNC Championship is a great event for players to play with their family members. There are a lot of great players out there competing their hearts out to win the trophy on Sunday. Golf fans around the world have been looking forward to this event ever since Tiger announced in November that he will play alongside his son Charlie for the first time ever. At the age of 11, this makes Charlie the youngest ever to compete in the PNC Championship. After day one, here are the takeaways from the event.

Leaderboard after Day One

Notable Father & Son Duos

John Daly & Little John Daly

Finishing -10, four back from the leader, John and his son have been playing some great golf in the first day of the event. These two play a very similar game as they both pound the golf ball out there. At the age of 16, Little John Daly was knocking down long putts, hitting long irons over 230 yards and catching some high club head speed. Not knowing for sure but I would think his club head speed with his driver is toping 125 MPH. If John and his son can keep it together without getting hot headed, they have a chance to contend on Sunday.

Matt & Cameron Kuchar

Leaders after day one, shooting -14 (58), these two are your leaders. A fantastic round for the Kuchars this afternoon, having 14 birdies and no bogeys on the scorecard. 13-year-old Cameron Kuchar was looking good out there, finding the fairway when needed, and knocking down putts when it mattered. If Matt and Cameron play like this tomorrow, they will be hoisting the trophy late Sunday afternoon.

Justin & Mike Thomas

A favourite coming into this event, both of these players have had a taste of the PGA life. Justin & Mike shot -10 today which sets them four shots back from the Kuchars. A great moment for these two as Mike has been watching and teaching Justin ever since Justin held onto a club for the first time. Now, they get to play alongside each other in a PGA Tour event. Playing with good friends Tiger and Charlie, there are a lot of chirps flying around on the course!

Tiger & Charlie Woods

The grouping that everyone has been waiting for. 11-year-old Charlie Woods makes his TV debut, playing alongside his father Tiger Woods. I was fairly impressed what Charlie can do on the golf course. Made some incredible shots that most 11-year-olds could not do and had the opportunity to chirp Justin Thomas who was playing in their group today. See video below as Charlie makes his first ever eagle alongside his father!

I couldn’t imagine the amount of pressure that Charlie had going into this event. He looked so calm out there, just like his father at a young age. We are going to see an exciting finish tomorrow if these two get off to a hot start.

The PNC Championship Final Round will be airing on NBC tomorrow, coverage starts at 2:00pm EST.
